Jul 30, The Window Seat rated it liked it. I really liked the premise of the book. Somehow during high school, in between bouts of Verdi and Rossini, she managed to find time to submerge herself in equal parts Tolkien, Barbara Cartland and Mad Magazine. It totally skipped the sex scenes, which is fine with me, but the romance was great.

Madelyn Phillips was pretty much a walking disaster. Lynn Kurland is my one of my favorite romance authors and she did not let me down with this book either. It was definitely clean very G rated in the romance departmentand overall their relationship was okay. I couldn’t loose myself in to actually being her.

Even so, this would have been a 4 star read. I’m so excited to have found a new author with more than 1 or 2 books in print! She ends up being rescued by a very handsome and mysterious Scot, tbe happens to be from the very distant past. Mass Market Paperbackpages. I liked this book. MAYBE if I had read previous books in this series I would have had the anticipation of knowing something was going to happen and would have enjoyed reading more because I would have been looking forward to it.

I couldn’t stop reading!! Madelyn has baggage but so does Patrick. Thank you to Lynn Kurland for not putting in all the slutty, filthy love scenes and creating a story that takes the heart and mind away into a wonderful world. Okay, I am a huge Lynn Kurland fan. Because if she is an example of what HLS churns out, I’m really not impressed. I love each and everyone of them and this on is just the same entertaining and enjoyable Story as all the others. Patrick MacLeod is an enjoyable character.


I think she was in that cage for 28 days. The middle of the book was 4 stars! Various family members have traveled to modern-day Scotland from their home in the 13th century Highlands.

As Madelyn is trying to escape from Bentley she goes back into the twelfth century. After a series of events and her introduction to Patrick she finds herself transported back in time, where she spends several weeks under awful circumstances. Without more time spent on the feelings these and other situations evoke, the author leaves the reader lacking and unfulfilled.

I’m borrowing a line from another review of this book because it’s a perfect description: This was an enjoyable read although I really don’t think it lived up to its potential. If you like scottish highland stories or old english lords and ladies, then this is a great author to look up. Madelyn’s fiance, who like herself is a lawyer and happens to work for the same law firm, up and tells her that he is calling off kurlahd wedding not long before the happy event is suppose to occur.

Instead, he becomes more and more disconnected – forcing his brother to begin reading psychology books to try to “fix” him which is a priceless scene!
