What sets the book different is the plot which is written in the first person account with very few dialogues, in the form of a teacher’s lecture or somebody’s diary extract.
And when that realization comes on the very first page, as it does in Kanae Minato’s “Confessions” a nasty little masterpiece published in English translation for the first time since it became a best-selling literary sensation in Minato’s home country of Japan six years agothe effect must be something like being minafo. I’ll admit I am a purist of sorts, I like my books to be tangible.
It’s a novel I’ll think about for a very long time. Firstly I would never have come across this book if it wasn’t for a friend here on Good reads who’s review encouraged me to read this wonderful novel.

In some ways the book reminded me of the Columbine massacre in the U. Of Monsters and Men. I can’t find any version of it anywhere. For those who enjoy first person narration by various characters, this book is for you.

You’ll never look at a classroom the same way again. I love complex and dislikable characters, so be warned this book is not for readers who are looking kahae loveable characters. I will read that one after I calm down from reading Confessions.
In addition, it seems like poor parenting was a mnato influence on the events of the story, along with the pressure to achieve academic success – demonstrated by the number of Japanese students who attend ‘cram school’ after regular classes.
