I’m going to go with a 3 since I thought it lechk well and was an interesting character study and probably a more realistic look at marriage between aristocrats at the time.

But, of course, he’s the victim — having to put up with her tears and having to sleep alone and all. Even adopted children not bastards, just adopted had problems with inheriting! Why would his wife want this? How could they ever get past that? No vi a ese John enamorado por recuperar a Viola siempre fue porque eres mi esposa te voy a recuperar.

This never happens in my opinion. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. Viola deserved so much better, too bad she didn’t seem to think so. The heroine also had to face making the best of what she had and trying to let go of the past.

The Marriage Bed

Grecia’s rating it was ok. His cousin Percy and Laua son have died, leaving the only person to inherit John’s title and estates his imbecile cousin Bertie. When they get more SONS? It would have been so much nicer, and cleaner if he had a girl. And to make everything worse, he thought he was a freaking saint and that it was Viola’s fault their marriage was in shambles.

No trivia or quizzes yet. It made me think, why could he fall in love with her, but yet it would take him nine damn years to fall in love with Viola. Or as I liked to call it he plot device of guhgke. Everyone in society knows that the marriage of Lord and Lady Hammond is an unhappy one. But as it turns out, when John told Viola her loved her, he was lying.

He couldn’t keep it in his pants for more than one fucking month and he called her reluctance to be touched by him, upon discovering his duplicity, sexual fucking blackmail?

She was strong, determined and stubborn when it came to their forced reconciliation and she defiantly did not end up running back to John’s bed after one or two love struck words. He was taking blame from page one.

Because he smiled nicely? It would be too easy to cast John in the role of the devil. A drama prop pushed at us so we could see how he could change and take responsibility and how she could soften. Laura is currently hard at work on her thirteenth historical romance for Avon Books.

She said she could not trust him. But you also can’t hate him. He never wanted the marriage to become estranged. I know that some readers ranted about her being stupid because she did not know that some jewelry was the currency of barking a contract with a mistress. Her reaction is in keeping with her spirit, her personality and her youth, and you can see the girl she was in her recollections alongside the woman she is “now”. The heroine on the other hand was having a youthful crush on a guy she did not know.

May 17, Daisiemae rated it really liked it Shelves: You like him but don’t like him – or, you like him in spite of himself.

Grecia Robles’s ‘second-chance’ books on Goodreads (19 books)

Her tears and hurt had been met with no understanding, only his biting, sarcastic wit. This book had a lot of the impossible. It’s not what I come to romance for, but I read it in one sitting and some credit has to be given for that. I feel it could have been a better story without the illegit baby angle.

Guhrke doesn’t write typical romance stories, that’s for sure. Again, I have some past experience to draw upon in empathising, and it felt familiar enough to hit home. The hero lied to her about loving her before the marriage and had a mistress during the courtship he did break it off before the marriage. He had to seek comfort with other women and console himself with them and it’s his wife’s fault.

Eight years ago, Viola, the beautiful young sister of a Duke, married the man she fell in love with at first sight, Lord Hammond. Instead, he waited a month for her to relent, and when she hadn’t, he walked out on her without a second thought.

Maybe it was the fond memories he had of her and the short time they had together. Not the stupid jewelry. Ay Colleeen siempre en ese tema hace que entre en conflicto con mis ideales.

Vi Unlike most of the other reviews, I disliked this book because of the leading lady, Viola. And not many people used them.
