Once you get past this, the writing is mesmeric, it makes you slow down, it demands your focused attention, you cannot skip lightly over vhronicles pages.
The Lymond Chronicles Series
If you have ever wanted to live in a different time period, this is as close chroniicles you’re going to get. On to the next book in the series! But the road to get there is often bumpy, difficult to traverse, with occasional glimmers of brilliance that help propel the reader forward. There is no attribution for the apparently old-English verses at the head of each chapter.

I would hate to be on the receiving end of his verbal lashings. The flood of high ratings has me baffled.
I shaped mine twenty times and had it broken twenty times in my hands. He is cold, cruel and vindictive, he behaves appallingly when drunk and worse when he is sober.
Not to say that the novel doesn’t have redeeming qualities and better characters. But like the hero, Lymond, the novel itself is in turns brilliant and frustrating.

The first thing that should be said is that the books are not set exclusively in France, though France and its Renaissance form one of the major background themes of the series—a kind of literary continuo, as it were. What’s up with them? Loading comments… Trouble loading? I mean c Ok, I don’t say this lightly but if one can make it through these books it will change your life. I might just slog on my next reading; this time through, I mostly ignored the foreign language bits and felt smart when I could figure them out without looking them up.
Dorothy really kept me guessing. His clever words, riddles can be harsh to his men and women. In the space of 20 pages, I would look up at least ten words, and most of these had dunnstt be Googled because they are not in the common lexicon. Queens’ Playthe second book in this series, is much easier to read–though still challenging–and incredibly gripping and rewarding.
There are complex and complicated female characters, too: He is an actor who struggles to give up his mask and change the role Fate and chronilces lords of the land have chrobicles for him, he tries to do right by his followers and by his friends, but more often than not the results are hurtful to guilty and innocents alike. Dunnett is a name to conjure with. Chrnicles order to clarify the situation with regard to said novel, let me first rehash what the two sides of the discussion have been saying: Like all novels, these are no substitute for actual history, but they can certainly make it more vivid for those students able to deal with complex story lines.
Of course, you can ignore it and still move right along. Okay, sometimes I had to re-read things, because of language, but still it felt realistic. Dorothy Dunnettfor all her outstanding education, forgot that.
