New York, Ivy Books, This guy isn’t fancy dancing around with his prose. The man is a world-class stylist, ellroy to reach even the most artless peons like myself. But as we all know, the system as a whole will follow its course and Kennedy will be killed nevertheless. The writing here still uses short, jagged phrasing and blocky rhythms but it’s smoother, more refined.
I’m not sure why that is, but maybe it has something to do with Ellroy’s growth as a writer. But as it happens, the Mafia is not a homogeneous group. In the hands of a lesser writer this story could have gotten unbelievable very quickly, but Ellroy is not a lesser writer.
