The state of New York is one steeped in history and importance to the national identity. So, it is only fitting that the State Fair would be a representation of state pride. The New York State Fair in Syracuse is a celebration of agriculture, food and entertainment that draws almost a million people annually. Parents know that fairs can mean wallet drain. So, here are a couple of ideas to help reduce costs this year and still make the fair fun for every member of the family.

The opening weekend featured crowds, sun and one big disappointment. Justin Bieber, Sunday's headliner, had to reschedule due to illness. Now, Wednesday, September 1, 2010 will be the teeny bopper festival at the fair. Truthfully, it's not a terrible development if families can still make arrangements. One major reason is that most weekdays (except Friday, September 3) feature the "Ride-All-Day" promotion. For $25, fair goers can ride unlimited midway rides all day. Considering the $4.00 Ferris wheel ride, this is a fantastic bargain for parents afraid of shelling out ticket money or facing the wrath of sunburned, tired kids who inevitably feel deprived when they can’t ride everything on the midway.

Family Fun at the New York State Fair

Beyond the midway are many fun family experiences. Near gate #3 is the Lego Experience. Kids and parents alike can build their own creations in the shade of a tent and pose for photo opportunities near the giant Lego sculptures. Speaking of sculpture, the Dairy Products building showcases a butter sculpture that attracts crowds to the refrigerated display. While in the Dairy Products building, little ones can play in Moo’s Place and enjoy 25 cent fresh milk (even chocolate).
