Over the past several years, Des Moines, Iowa has undergone a downtown rejuvenation project to make the city more attractive. There is a surprising amount of wealth in this city, providing generous donations to back these projects. The western part of the main downtown drag, saw the most uplift. Semi vacant and decrepid buildings were demolished so the revitalization could start with a clean slate.
This new area was given the name Gateway West. Pappajohn Higher Education Center was one of the first new buildings, followed by the new Des Moines Public Library. Both modern buildings, they set the tone for this part of the city. Grassy, crafted park area surrounds these buildings and continues throughout several blocks.
