Watching Omnibus: American Profiles from E1 Entertainment on this DVD set is like watching history come alive before your own eyes. Take your family back in time as you look at the black and white documentaries so true to the past that you can hear the crackle of background audio (although thankfully, the images are crisper than they were in the 1950s).
Once upon a time, in the years before cable, television was a very different experience from what we have today. We tell our children about the way we used to watch black-and-white shows on television on screens smaller than their computer monitors. We talk about old documentaries with tinny music and formal interviewers that are nowhere anything like the Kratt brothers and other hosts they are used to seeing on television now. With the Omnibus set, they get to see what we are talking about first-hand.
As we broke open the 2-disc set sent to us for review, our first step was to determine what episode we wanted to watch. The task was relatively simple thanks to a handy booklet that came with the set. Not only did it described who was highlighted in each episode, but it also showed how long each episode ran, and offered a brief summary of each episode. One disc featured prominent people, and the other highlighted prominent places.
